The temperature has plummeted, the nights are drawing in and the dark lip stains are coming out. Despite an unseasonably warm September, in comes November and we are in no doubt that Autumn is here and Winter is on it's way. So put your brolly away, make a cup of tea, get your feet up and enjoy my picks for everything you need in the beautiful seasons of Autumn and Winter.

do I have resting bitchface..?

I typically wear darker hues at any given time but in the latter end of the year, they seem most appropriate. I love this faux fur collar from eBay and have been wearing it with everything - it instantly adds a touch of glamour to even a simple outfit. Boots are must - these are from New Look. I picked up this hat in an Antique/vintage store in London and I think it's perfect for the season.  

The Beauty Stuff

Wind-resistant hair and smoky eyes ...

My make-up is pretty minimal when it comes to my eyes, but recently I've been smudging a little eyeshadow on my lowerlash line and flicking out out towards the end. It gives a grungy yet pretty look, I've been following Beautycrush's tutorial below to achieve this.
My hair is mainly covered up with a hat through most of the colder months, but when I do decide to brave the elements with a bare head, I have to make sure my locks are on point. My go-to hairstyle recently has been a high ponytail secured with a cute bow hair bobble. I find it's easiest to achieve if you tip your hair upside down in order to gather all the stray hairs. I also love a fishtail plait to the side as it looks good on it's on or peaking out under a hat. 

The Music & Movies
The sights and the sounds ...

Halloween may be over, but that doesn't mean you need to put the scary movies away. I used to hate horror movies but recently I've found myself watching lots, from golden oldies like Poltergeist to the absurdly awful Drag Me to Hell. When it comes to new movies, I'd highly recommend Gone Girl - at two and half hours it's a long one so I'd skip the large-size drink if I were you! I also am cautiously optimistic when it comes to the new Paddington film (Nov 28), I just hope it doesn't ruin my childhood!

Of course, when Halloween and Bonfire Night are out of the way, it's time for festive films! One of my absolute favourite Christmas films is the Patrick Stewart version of A Christmas Carol - I watch it several times on the run up to Christmas.For nostalgia, I love Mickey's Christmas Carol and when I'm done with all the mushy movies, I just have to crack out Bad Santa!

Recently, I've been listening to Justin Sane's album Life, Love & The Pursuit of Justice. His mardy, whiny voice is right up my street and just puts me in the mood for the cold weather. I have to be honest, the new tunes haven't really dazzled me this season, but I'm loving Janet Devlin's second album Running With Scissors, checking out her Friday I'm in Love cover.

The Food Stuff
What to munch on ...

My spicy bean burger with cheese and mango chutney - amazing!

Of course, candy apples are the way to go! My friend Alex posted a great tutorial last year for these treats, check them out here. When it comes to dinner, one of my favourite winter warmers is a large steaming bowl of chilli (veggie of course) and tacos. Chilli is one of the easiest meals to cook as you literally just throw everything in a pan and let it do it's thing. If you don't fancy cooking, The Spode Cottage in Rugeley is one of my favourite places to eat - they do amazing burgers with really delicious and unusual topping combinations. If you'd like to check it out, I have a review of the place here 

The beverage of choice has to be a milky hot chocolate - preferably with squirty cream and a little cocoa powder dusted on top. However, the amazing Divas Can Cook recently uploaded a tutorial on how to make delicious caramel apple spice drink. I'm yet to try this myself but it's definitely an activity for chilly cosy nights. I was recently introduced jasmine green tea which I'm loving.

Bonfire Night! ✴

Hope you had a great bonfire night! Instead of going to an organised firework display, this year we stayed at home and set off some rockets in our garden. And when we ran out of fireworks, we could even see the local pub's display from over the treetops.

 I had such a great time, it reminded me of being a child again; although back then, I used to be frightened of sparklers and the loud bangs seemed a lot scarier! We spent the evening eating veggie burgers and jacket potatoes round the fire while the boys attempted to set up fireworks without getting blown up.

Autumn Ruffles

If you're a regular visitor of the Palace, you'll know that I'm quite fond of shorts that look like pants. I don't mean the granny, Miley Cyrus-esque type, I'm referring to the french knicker style. I featured a cute pair from Primark here and I also have a grey pair from River Island. Yes, I am a fan. 

So it might not come as a huge shock to learn that I recently snapped up these cute shorts from eBay. Unlike my other pairs, these just feel more A/W; the thickness of the material, the creamy colour, they just work perfectly with a wooly jumper and a pair of boots. Speaking of boots, what do you think of mine? I was on a birthday present raid and was struck by these beauties. As a committed military boots hoarder, I knew I needed these in my repertoire. Unfortunately, these lovelies are the only thing I managed to find that day. Why do all the birthdays fall around this time of year?

By the way guys, I'm thinking about a hair change. About two years ago, I used to have ash blonde highlights all through my hair. I'm thinking about going back down the lighter route, but not quite so dramatically. I'm wondering about getting Jennifer Lawrence style highlights..

It's that time of year again - Freshers Week. You may be wondering where the obligatory OOTN posts are - well I'm afraid I won't be joining the newbies this year as my body has decided to fall prey to the plague. Or a head-cold, whichever. My system just can't handle illness and alcohol at the same time. Boo.

I have however managed to prop myself up long enough to do a little outfit post - it's been a while. A pretty standard look today but I wanted to show you my new sandals. How cute are these? I couldn't decide whether I should get them in black or burgundy but I came to the conclusion I had way too many dark clothes in my wardrobe and that a little colour would brighten it up. They're so sweetly geeky and totally appropriate for back to school/uni.

I really hope I feel better for next week; I don't want to be the annoying student sniffing loudly every five seconds during a lecture. Wish me luck for this final scary year and  erm, pass me a tissue? *sneeze*

September so far...

... has been rainy. Very rainy. It's made me quite fearful of stepping outside of my door, but I'm going to have to overcome that phobia soon as my third year at uni is just around the corner. It's kind of really scary to think that in a years time I'll be a proper grown-up, looking for a proper job. Yikes. 

It's probably just as scary for you guys starting uni too, it's a huge step up from school or college. You're probably nervous about workloads, deadlines and of course making new friends - maybe my advice will help you on that front ...? But seriously, just be yourself, have fun but above all, work hard. Yes, this sound quite boring but if you want to have a great time you've got to keep on top of your studies. It's not as hard as you've heard, promise! You can do it.

Take one unwearable shirt...

So when I brought this shirt home from the Sack Sale, Jack was less than impressed with it. He actually laughed his head off hysterically and asked, 'when are you ever going to wear that?'

Some love for the pig's bum coat hook?

I honestly didn't think it was that awful; in fact, I rather liked it. But perhaps it is a little 'out there' for the general majority. This is why I've decided to prove him wrong and have come up with three great outfits with the 'unwearable shirt'. Take that ;D 

Outfit One

I've got my Ace Ventura hair going on.The thing that actually attracted me about the shirt was the interesting material, it's so bright and shiny. The main qualm I have with it is that it's a little on the large side, so I've tucked it into this skirt to mask that.

Outfit two

Check out the lil socks - so chic, right? :') A more casual look now, and the oversized look of the shirt works great this time. Of course, I did tie it at the ends as it is actually ma-hoo-sive, but I think that looks okay. It makes for a nice cover-up and and extra layer in this freezing cold. I'm notoriously awful at dressing for the winter weather, so I was pretty thankful for the additional warmth.

I look an absolute berk on this picture. I know it's hard to believe, but it actually was the best of a bad bunch :') It's the only one where the outfit is completely visible. Bad lighting, you see. 

 Despite the fact the photo is a bit loco, this is my favourite look. I'm rocking the dogtooth trend this season, plus these leggings are quite thick so keep me reasonably warm, which is a bonus.

I got two denim jackets from the sack sale, and I've been wearing them so much recently. I'd been on the lookout for one for so long and two came at once, how perfect :3

A Gem from the Sack Sale..

Outfit of the day for you guys! I really wanted to show you this one, as I'm wearing one of my laaavley gems from the Sack Sale. Yep, it's this beautiful vintage shirt - how great is it? I really love the gothic-inspired collar. How much do you reckon you'd pay for a top like this in somewhere like River Island? My guess is a lot.

Haven't got much to say to be honest, apologies for being so boring. But ohmigosh, I nearly forgot - I have awesome Kpop news! Big Bang are coming to Wembley Stadium - that's right, in LONDON! Dreams really do come true .. ♪♥

Autumn is upon us

These pictures were taken hastily before uni today. Looking at them, you'd perhaps think it was a bright sunny day - no chance. The wind was awful today, my carefully sculpted hair was a knotted mess by the time I got to the bus station and I had to be extremely cautious that my skirt didn't betray my modesty. Eek.

Look at all the lovely Autumn leaves on the ground! I have to be honest, Autumn is the one season I've never actually had strong feelings about. If anything, I kind of disliked it, as it ushers in the end of summer and the huge gap to Christmas. I've been reading lots of blogs who have been celebrating the turning of the leaves, and I've decided to join them. Autumn is actually a really beautiful time of year, it's strange I've never really thought about it much. I'm enjoying it so far (:

Not a great deal has happened in the last week, although I have been given some articles to write for the uni paper The Thread, which I've really been looking forward to. I have already written a promo for the Band Night that's happening this Thursday and I'll be going along to that to cover it. As my regular readers will know, I'm kinda familiar with independent and local band, so I can't wait for that ☺

I'm disappointed that you can't see my robot necklace in the photographs. Like seriously? It's like it's disappeared. I swear I was wearing it, but for some reason it is invisible - huh. Very strange. Oh well, here it is.  I find it really funny that the boy robot has the Ecape button on it's tummy - it's kinda like when the girl says she want to move in together or something, he's got it there, ready to bail :')

I've had it for ages, but only recently have I organised all my necklaces. I'm notoriously untidy, so I've been giving my room a massive clean-up. My necklaces were wedged into a box all tangled up, so my mother had the ingenious idea of getting a noticeboard and pinning them onto it. I think they look quite pretty up there too, which is a bonus.
